Well, we all knew that plans change and we start 2024 by moving on to plan B. On Thursday, we found out that Dad's kidney numbers were too severe to continue with Chemo. What this means is that we will move on to surgery without getting the full regimen. The reason we were doing the Chemo was to kill as much as the cancer as possible before surgery thus giving dad the greatest chance to not have a relapse later. However, we can't sacrifice the kidneys for the sake of extra Chemo.
So. We move straight to surgery.
Surgery is scheduled for February 15th. They will be removing Dad's bladder and prostate. He will recover in the hospital for about a week before coming home and have a 8-12 week recovery. There are a lot of questions that we will not have answers to until surgery is complete so that is what we are focusing on. Getting as strong as possible before surgery. Dad feels good about his care and surgeon team and is ready to move forward with plan B.
Send dad positive vibes for the next few weeks as he preps for surgery day. Still fighting, just on a different road.
