Hello all. So we are finally in surgery week. On Wednesday dad will go in for his surgery to remove his bladder and prostate. During the operation, surgeons will also look for any signs that the cancer had spread outside of bladder. Our team feels strongly that the cancer is contained and removal of the bladder and prostate will remove all the cancer. Wednesday will be a long day, the surgery will take about 4 hours (with 2 hours of prep time) and then an extended time after surgery before dad is moved into his recovery room. He will stay in the hospital for about 5 days before he is released to come home. Full recovery time will vary but we are hoping between 8-12 weeks. He will be on a liquid diet for a while until he is cleared to start adding more solid foods into his diet. Dad will have a stoma moving forward but after recovery he will be able to get back on that pickleball court! So get your practice in, maybe we will set up a tourney when dad is cleared for play. I will be giving updates through this platform on Wednesday as well as during the recovery period. I ask that if you have any questions you direct any messages directly through me. Mom and Dad need to be focused on health and care. While all your messages are well intentioned, they can sometimes add extra stress in a environment we want to keep stress free. Messages can come directly to me through messaging me on this site or you can contact me through phone or social media. To the entire "Let's Go Gary!" community. Thank you SO much for all the messages and love you have sent us. They have been rays of light on the hard days. Our hearts have been full knowing how many people love and support dad. Thank you Thank you Thank you.
Now. Let's get this cancer out! Go on! Git!
Don't forget to label which bladder is coming out so they don't take the wrong one. Wishing you the best and a quick recovery
